Xenophobia: Prepare for returnees – Ohanaeze tells south east governors

South east governors have been urged to begin preparation for some Nigerians returning from South Africa – The advise was given by the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo John Nnia-Nwodo – Nwodo said all governors in the region should be expected to put something on ground for those returning due to the xenophobic attack in South Africa The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on all south east governors to prepare for the return of victims of the xenophobic attack in South Africa. The president general of the organisation, John Nnia-Nwodo, during a press briefing on the forthcoming Igbo Day celebration said Ohanaeze will also acknowledge people of the region who played major roles in the development of the south east.

Condemning the attack of Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa, Nwodo said, south east governor must be ready to provide a landing ground for returnees. “The south east governors must put things on ground to assist those returning from South Africa, the bulk of whom are Igbo people. We call on them to use this opportunity to put infrastructure that will cushion the effect of their unplanned dislocation,” Nwodo said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo had called for a retaliatory sanctions against government of South Africa in Nigeria. The organisation said such move by the Nigerian government would send a strong warning on her stand on the actions taken by the South Africans.
